Good morning my grammar experts!

Sticking with the grammar theme for the week, tomorrow we will be discussing the 8 parts of speech.The picture below is what the handout I will be giving in class tomorrow will look like. In addition to this handout, we will be adding more examples of how to properly use the 8 parts of speech.


 
8 parts of speech:
1. Adjectives
2. Adverbs
3. Conjunctions
4. Interjections
5. Nouns
6. Prepositions
7. Pronouns
8. Verbs

To help with the 8 parts of speech and other parts of grammar, attached below is a link to a website called "Language Arts, Go Grammar." This website will have games and quizzes for the students to practice their grammar skills on.

I would like the students to look over the 8 parts of speech and get an idea of what we will be discussing. I would also like the students to check the website I have attached and become familiar with it. For tomorrow, I want the students to think about this question and be prepared to discuss their answers at the beginning of class:
                        1. Why is it important for us to learn how to properly use grammar?

Good afternoon students and parents! Did you know that proper grammar can save a person's life? When it comes to grammar I feel that everyone has room to improve. To help students practice and become grammar masters, I have attached a website called "Grammar Blast" that allows students to learn how to properly use grammar while also playing games and having fun. For class tomorrow, I would like all of my students to answer these two questions for discussion: 

1. How comfortable do you feel with your grammar?

2. Do you feel like you have been properly taught the correct ways to use grammar in order to succeed in your everyday writing?

Welcome students and parents to Mr.Parks classroom and blog! As the 2015 school year approaches the excitement to meet all the students and parents grows. I look forward to meeting and working with every one of you this year.

To start, Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelors degree in Integrated Language Arts. I am excited to announce that I am a first year teacher and you are my first class ever. I have three furry children that I adore, and a loving husband to put up with me. I enjoy reading, scrap booking in my spare time, and traveling any chance I get.

This blog was created in order to stay in touch better with my students and their parents. I feel that communication is important to maintain a teacher/ student or teacher/parent relationship. I will post daily to this blog in hopes that others will do the same. This blog is intended to keep students organized and parents involved on what their child is studying in school. I intend to post notes and topics that we have discussed in class for the day, as well as homework, in case a student is absent or forgot their notes/assignments at school. I will post these because this will ensure success for our students and will help students not fall behind on class work. Along with assignments and homework, I will post links to websites that provide games or additional information that may help a student succeed.

After notes and assignments have been posted to the blog, there will be an opportunity to comment on the post. Under the post will be a link that says "comment." Please feel free to ask any questions that you see fit, but do try to keep the questions directed towards the work you are commenting on. If a homework assignment does not make sense or you are having trouble on a homework assignment or project just leave me a comment and let me know and I will comment back on that same post with a solution. If there needs to be a private discussion between teacher and parent, my email address will be provided on the right side of the page.
